It Came From the Library Shelves! (Dun Dun Dunnnn)

Halloween is tomorrow and I was trying to decide what sort of scary post I could put on the blog. Well then I remembered all the stuff I found in and around juvenile fiction while I was weeding a while back.

Boom. The cult classic:

It Came From the Library Shelves!! Out of the primordial depths to destroy the world! (cue the creepy music).

Ha, okay, so it's not all that creepy. I mean, a lot of what you find is expected, like piles of bookmarks...

Although it is pretty cute when you find the lovingly made, handcrafted bookmarks...

Then there's the people who just grab whatever for their bookmark. Like coupons...

Or religious paraphernalia... (actually, maybe they do that on purpose, passing it along to other people)

Okay, but beyond bookmarks are where some of the real horrors are found! (cue creepy music again)

Like a miniature Thor (he was actually in the book--that poor book spine!!)...

Pencil is for size reference of course

The ever terrible, horrible, staining, damaging...FOOD!

I know! A whole wafer! Okay, so this isn't the most horrifying food I've found while weeding. Usually it's the sticky stuff that scares me. Jam, juice, chocolate... (well at least I hope it was chocolate).

Finally, the horror of all horrors...

WRITING IN THE BOOK

Okay, this is my most favorite writing-in-the-book I've ever found. It's SO FUNNY. Ozzy Osborne signed our book! Ha, just kidding. The best part is the kid actually put his real phone number in the book. A quick search in our patron database pulled him up pretty quick.

I must admit, I was tempted to call it and request the million dollars.

Of course, I haven't gotten pictures of all the amazing things to be found (funny notes, gift cards, cash, candy wrappers are the best. Other things...not so amazing). But it definitely adds some drama to a pretty tedious task! What have you found in a library book?

  1. Fun post! I recently found your blog and am enjoying it!

A few weeks ago, I found a bright orange laminated piece of paper. It said in bold font, "I need a break." That's all.
I tried to turn it in to my supervisor. It earned a chuckle but no break. :)

    Happy Halloween!
